PDGA Event Registration

Postby Ramsfan1 » Sat Mar 13, 2021 7:27 am

The recent growth of the sport has created unprecedented waitlists and chaos during the registration process. I am beyond frustrated with what I perceive to be inadequate answers from the PDGA to address and solve this issue. The easy answer- build more courses and run more events- are both easier said than done. People are working towards both; but this does not solve the immediate problem of people getting shut out of events.

Particularly upsetting is the fact that people who have been around the sport a long time and/or have worked to build this sport are getting shut out of events at the expense of others. This isn't fair and it isn't right.

TDs are trying different strategies- doing tiered registrations by division and/or by rating, opening early registration for women and youth and running events with limited divisions. They can also run multi-day events, but this is a tremendous workload. The PDGA does allow clubs to reserve a certain number of spots for their members at events they run or for tournament sponsors. But that leaves limited spots for others. There's no easy answers.

The entire situation is a difficult one and is very much a work in progress. We have no choice but to be patient as we navigate what has been a very difficult landscape. Those interested in running events should contact their local club to gain knowledge of the process.
